Lesson 1620: Self-blame, shame, and the vicious cycle

Duration:70 minutes
Topic Introduction:When cravings arise, many people instinctively reach for their phones or open games without thinking. This course guides learners to record the time, place, emotions, physical reactions, and duration of those cravings. Writing down the craving isn't about suppressing it, but about identifying its patterns so that next time you can pause for a few more minutes. Recording isn't judgment, but rather transforming automatic reactions into a comprehensible process. The more familiar you are with what cravings look like, the easier it is to protect yourself during peak periods.

Please approach this lesson with a light heart. There's no need to rush to self-criticism or try to explain everything at once. This lesson will guide you through learning to record the time, place, physical reaction, emotions, and duration of cravings, helping you find patterns. Many dependent behaviors may seem like a lack of self-discipline, but often mask underlying fatigue, stress, loneliness, fear of failure, or a desire to temporarily escape. The next time a craving arises, record where it begins, how your body feels at its strongest, and how long it lasts before subsiding. Craving tracking will help you discover patterns: it might always appear at night, after stress, after arguments, when bored, or when physically exhausted. The more specific your record, the better you can prepare in advance. Gradually, you'll learn which times to minimize device use, which emotions need to be soothed first, and which people or environments can help you get through peak periods. In this lesson, I hope you're not asked to immediately improve, but rather to first understand yourself better, and then start with a small action. Cravings come and go; what you need to do is learn to protect yourself as they pass. Having learned this far, please be patient with yourself in Lesson 1620: You're not fighting a battle with the internet that you must win immediately, but rather practicing gradually taking choices, time, and life back into your own hands. At this point, try connecting "identifying and recording internet cravings" with a real-life scenario: When does it usually happen? What emotions precede it? Is your body tired, tense, or empty? What impact does it have on your sleep, relationships, studies, or work afterward? Don't rush to turn these records into self-criticism. A more helpful approach is to see them as a life map: where are the entrances, where are the turns, where you need to protect yourself in advance, and where you need to seek help. Today, you don't need to make any major changes immediately; choose just one small action: reduce your screen time, put down your device beforehand, place your phone further away, or pause for ten seconds before continuing. Repeating these small actions will gradually create a new sense of stability. Lesson 1620 simply requires you to do this first: take a small step back from the screen, impulses, or fatigue, and listen to your body and mind again.

AI Healing Q&A
When recording internet cravings, tell the AI the time, place, physical reaction, emotional intensity, and duration. It will help you find patterns: are they most likely to occur at night, after an argument, when bored, or before a task? The AI will help you create an observation sheet, but if the craving is too strong to control, please seek professional support. After completing the process, a craving record sheet will be generated. Fill it out directly the next time the impulse arises, making it easier to see patterns. Recording will gradually reveal the outline of the impulse. Record it three times first.

○ Music therapy guidance
When recording your online urges, prepare a short, consistent piece of music as a tool to observe when the urge arises. Each time you want to go online or play a game, play this song and record how long the urge lasts, from its initial intensity to its final intensity. The music doesn't suppress the urge; it simply helps you see that urges arise and change. After recording a few times, you'll become more familiar with the coming and going of urges. Seeing the pattern is itself a way of regaining some control from a state of being out of control. Observe first. Write it down. Review it slowly.

○Eastern and Western Healing Teas
Biluochun tea is perfect for recording online cravings when you want to maintain a clear and focused state. Its fragrant and mellow taste makes it suitable for daytime consumption. Take 1 teaspoon of Biluochun and steep in 75-80°C water for 2-3 minutes. While drinking, you can jot down the time the craving occurred, your emotions, and physical sensations, transforming the impulse from "immediate action" to "observable action."

Internet or gaming addiction often leads people to neglect eating, sleeping, and physical sensations. Diet doesn't need to be complicated, nor should it become a new source of stress. This dish reminds you to return to a meal, a bite, a quiet moment, allowing your attention to slowly shift from the screen back to your body. Recipe (1–2 servings): practice: When preparing lemon-roasted chicken thighs, put your phone aside and let your hands actually touch the ingredients. The processes of washing, chopping, stirring, or heating can all become mini-practice sessions to step away from the screen. There's no need to strive for perfection when cooking; just slow down and breathe more deeply. Before taking your first bite, remind yourself: I'm gently bringing my day back into the spotlight with a simple meal. If you've stayed up late, are irritable, or exhausted, simplify the process to the easiest version. If you're feeling impulsive, eat something mild first before deciding on the next step. ○Mandala Healing
When recording online cravings, you can consistently look at the same mandala. Each time the urge arises, first look at the center, then record how strong the urge is, where your body feels tense, and what your emotions are. After finishing, evaluate it again. You will gradually discover that cravings are not unchanging commands; they arise and subside. After finishing, keep the records. Do this several times, and you will better understand when cravings arise and how to protect yourself. Record three times first. Slowly see the effects. Record again. Several more times.

○ Calligraphy and engraving therapy practice
The more you lose control, the more ashamed you feel; the more ashamed you feel, the more you want to hide online—this cycle is heartbreaking. The calligraphy and engraving practice doesn't require written self-criticisms or prescribed content; it simply helps you withdraw from self-blame. Let your hands gradually stabilize, reminding yourself: change doesn't begin with humiliation, but with being willing to gently accept yourself. Please treat the practice as companionship, not punishment; you deserve to be treated gently in times of difficulty. It will be easier to talk about change after you've stabilized yourself. Take care of yourself in this moment.

○ Art Therapy Guidance
Many people know they overuse the internet, yet the more they try to control it, the more they fail, ultimately ending up with only self-blame and shame. Art therapy doesn't take a critical stance; it's more like a quiet corner willing to listen. You can slowly entrust your unspoken frustrations, disappointments, and self-loathing to the paper. It doesn't need to be perfect or beautiful. The process of drawing reminds you that change doesn't begin with humiliating yourself, but with accepting your difficulties. Gentleness is more healing.

○ Diary Healing Suggestions
Self-blame and shame will only make you want to hide online. Today's journal entry can start with some self-reproach, then gently rephrase it. For example, instead of saying "Why did I do this again?", change it to "I'm really having a hard time right now, I need some help." Don't write your journal as punishment; it should be a place for you to return to yourself. Finally, write about something small that you can start over with, so that today doesn't end in shame, but in care. After you've finished writing, please read that gentle new way of putting it over your head. The more you can comfort yourself with human words, the less you'll need the internet to hide from shame and sadness. May you gradually find peace.
