Today, I want to gently approach you with the theme: Step-by-Step Practice of Calm Communication. Calm communication is not about being emotionless, nor is it about pretending not to care. It's about having emotions, but not letting those emotions turn everything into attacks. In many conflicts, what we really want to say is, "I'm hurt," "I'm scared," "I need to be respected," but what comes out is, "You're always like this," "You never care about me," "You're doing this on purpose." Today, we'll practice slowly translating accusations into facts, impacts, needs, and solutions. Step 1: Facts. Simply state what happened, without judgment. For example: "You raised your voice just now"; "You didn't tell me beforehand"; "You asked three times in a row." Step 2: Impacts. Describe how this event affected you. For example: "I started to feel nervous, my body felt hot, and it was difficult for me to continue thinking." Step 3: Needs. State what you truly need. For example: "I need to speak more slowly, I need some time, I need to be informed in advance." Step 4: Solutions. Propose actionable next steps. For example: "Let's take a ten-minute break, or you can ask only one question at a time, or we can discuss it again tomorrow." You can rephrase an accusation like this: "When you keep rushing me, I panic and easily say harsh things." I need ten minutes to organize my thoughts, then I'll let you know my progress. This approach may not solve all problems immediately, but it reduces harm and makes it easier for the other person to hear you. Please note that calm communication does not mean belittling yourself. If you have clearly stated your position and the other person continues to mock, threaten, or attack, you can stop communicating. Safety is more important than completeness of expression. When practicing, you can write first, without rushing to speak. Write down what you want to say, crossing out words like "always," "never," and "you are," which are prone to igniting conflict. Then read it again to see if it includes facts, impact, needs, and solutions. Communication is a skill, not a personality trait. Mistakes can be corrected, and incomplete statements can be supplemented later. You don't need to become a master communicator overnight; simply being willing to be less aggressive and more clear is already changing the direction of relationships. After reading aloud, please write down a commonly used accusation and then adapt it into a four-step communication expression.

○ Music therapy guidance
Before engaging in calm communication, play some soft music and slowly read aloud what you want to say. While listening to the music, remove hurtful words like "always," "never," and "you are," and replace them with facts, impacts, needs, and solutions. Soften your voice first; your words will be easier for the other person to hear.

◉ Chinese Food Therapy: Pine Nut Porridge
I. Recommended Dietary Therapy and Reasons
Recommended dishes:Pine nut porridge
Recommended reasons:Pine nut porridge has a mild texture, requiring little chewing and placing no excessive burden on the body, making it suitable for times when quiet, slow eating, and self-care are needed. The process of making and eating it is itself a therapeutic exercise: washing the rice, adding water, waiting, stirring, and serving all remind the body to gradually return to a stable state.
2. Recipe and Method
Recipe (1–2 servings):
- 20 g of pine nuts
- 60 g japonica rice
- 800 ml of clean water
- A little rock sugar, optional
practice:
- Rinse rice thoroughly. Beans, lotus seeds, and white fungus, which are harder ingredients, can be soaked in advance.
- First, rinse the medicinal ingredients that need to be processed simply. Blanch meat or special ingredients as needed or cut them into small pieces.
- Add water and the main ingredients to a pot, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer.
- Stir gently during cooking to prevent burning and allow the aromas of the ingredients to blend slowly.
- Once the rice grains have opened up and the porridge has become soft and thick, add ingredients that are easy to cook or that need to retain their aroma.
- Season sparingly according to taste, keeping the flavor as light as possible, and avoid overpowering the ingredients with excessive sugar, salt, or strong flavors.
- Let it cool slightly after serving before eating, allowing your body to gradually settle down in the warmth and softness.
3. Small rituals for body and mind
When cooking pine nut porridge, you can first arrange the ingredients neatly so you can see their color, shape, and texture. This small action can help you gradually bring your attention back to the present moment from a state of confusion.
While waiting for the porridge to soften, give yourself three slow breaths. You don't need to explain, apologize, or solve everything immediately; just let your body know that it's safe for now.
When you take your first bite, focus on the temperature, aroma, and soft texture. You can gently tell yourself: I'm taking care of myself; I'm willing to slow down; I can start over.
4. Dietary Therapy Experience Record
- Record the time of consumption: whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a meal to settle down after emotional fluctuations.
- Observe changes in stomach comfort, body temperature, mental stability, and mood intensity within 30–60 minutes after consumption.
- If you consume it on days when you are prone to emotional outbursts, you can record whether it helps you slow down or gives your body a greater sense of security.

- If you have a poor appetite, you can eat a small amount first and don't have to force yourself to finish the whole bowl.

If you have chronic illnesses, are pregnant, have a history of allergies, have special nutritional restrictions, or are currently taking medication, please prioritize following the advice of your healthcare provider and nutritionist.

Mandala Viewing Healing
Before engaging in calm communication, practice speaking while looking at a mandala. Place facts on the outer ring, influences in the middle, and needs at the center. With each circle you look at, reduce accusations and increase clarity in your language. You can be gentle or firm. True communication isn't about winning against the other person, but about helping each other understand each other better.

○ Calligraphy and engraving therapy practice
Before engaging in calm communication, writing down characters can serve as preparation for a scenario rehearsal. Don't specify what to write, and don't speak immediately; simply allow your body to step back from aggression or defensiveness. Once your hand has slowed down, then choose the scenario, trigger, action, and restoring language. The more methodical the communication, the less it relies on impulsiveness. Please take your time. Even a little bit counts. If you feel uncomfortable, pause. Give yourself some space. Please take your time. Even a little bit counts. If you feel uncomfortable, pause. Give yourself some space. Please take your time.

○ Art Therapy Guidance
Calm communication can be represented by a step-by-step card: Scenario, Trigger, Pause, Expression, Reset. Please make this card simple and clear, like a small, readily available map. Once communication has steps, emotions don't have to completely take over the situation, and you'll find it easier to find your way back amidst tension. Take it slow. It doesn't need to be perfect. Pause if you feel uncomfortable. Even a little bit counts. Take it slow. It doesn't need to be perfect. Pause if you feel uncomfortable. Even a little bit counts. Take it slow.

○ Diary Healing Suggestions
Before engaging in calm communication, write down a scenario that could easily ignite a conflict, and organize it step-by-step: trigger, physical action, pause, expression, reset. Also, write down a small action and prepare a non-aggressive statement. Communication isn't about improvisation; practicing beforehand will give you more security in conflict situations. A log isn't an exam, but a place to ensure you're understood. Take your time; stability and safety are more important than speed. After writing, give yourself a gentle affirmation: I'm learning; I don't need to be perfect right away. If you can only achieve a little today, acknowledge that little bit counts.
