Today, I want to gently approach you with the theme of guilt, shame, and self-attack. When anxiety and depression occur simultaneously, it's easy to become very harsh on yourself. You might think: Why am I like this again? Why can't I do it right? Others must be very disappointed. Am I not worthy of being loved at all? These voices sometimes sound like they're urging you to change, but they often continue to hurt you. Guilt and shame aren't entirely the same either. Guilt usually says: Something I did might need fixing. Shame, however, says: I'm just a bad person. The former can help us take responsibility, while the latter can crush us. Please place your hand on your chest and gently tell yourself: I can take responsibility for things, but I don't need to attack myself. Today's exercise is to translate self-attack into a real need. Please write down your most frequent self-blame, such as "I'm so useless," "I always drag others down," "I shouldn't be like this." Then ask yourself: Is there a need hidden behind this sentence? Maybe I need support, maybe I need rest, maybe I need to take smaller steps, maybe I need to be understood. Then rewrite the original sentence into a gentler one. For example, instead of saying "I'm so useless," you can change it to "I feel powerless right now, so I need to start with small things." Instead of saying "I always disappoint people," you can change it to "I'm worried about hurting relationships, so I want to learn to express myself more clearly." Remember, gentleness isn't about shirking responsibility. Gentleness empowers you to heal, not paralyze you with shame. You can prepare a self-resetting statement: "I'm willing to learn, I'm willing to heal, I will no longer force myself to improve through shame." Every time you can recognize self-attack, you're already distancing yourself from it. After reading aloud, write down a sentence you often use to attack yourself, and then rewrite it into a sentence that supports you.

◉ Japanese Dietary Therapy: Tea-Scented Tofu Soup

I. Recommended Dietary Therapy and Reasons

Recommended dishes:Tea-scented tofu soup (for calming emotions)

Recommended reasons:This lesson helps you take a step back from guilt, shame, and self-attack. Soft soups are perfect for soothing the stomach and body after self-blame, and also remind you that healing requires strength.

2. Recipe and Method

Recipe (1–2 servings):

  • 1 block of soft tofu
  • 150 ml of weak tea
  • 400 ml of water
  • A little starch water
  • A pinch of salt

practice:

  1. Wash the main ingredients thoroughly. Prepare the parts that need to be peeled, sliced, or shredded by cutting them into small, easy-to-eat pieces.
  2. Cut the tofu into small cubes and cook until soft. Add a touch of light tea aroma and finally thicken with a thin cornstarch slurry.
  3. Keep the seasoning light, with less salt and sugar, and avoid using strong flavors that overpower the ingredients, making it easier for the body to accept.
  4. During the preparation process, you can slow down your movements and treat washing, cutting, boiling, and mixing as a small exercise to bring your attention back to the present moment.
  5. After serving, let it cool slightly to a comfortable temperature before eating to avoid putting extra strain on your body if it's too hot or too cold.
  6. Take your first bite slowly, savoring the aroma, temperature, and texture before letting your body decide whether to continue.
  7. If you have a poor appetite that day, you can eat a small amount. There is no need to force yourself to finish it. The key is to let your body know that you are being taken care of.

3. Small rituals for body and mind

When preparing tea-scented tofu soup, you can first arrange the ingredients neatly to see their colors, shapes, and delicate textures. This small action can help your attention gradually shift from anxiety, depression, or recurring worries back to the present moment.

While waiting for your food to finish, give yourself three slow breaths. You don't need to immediately explain all your emotions or solve all your problems; just let your body know that you are safe at this moment.

When you take your first bite, focus on the temperature, aroma, and soft texture. You can gently tell yourself: I'm taking care of myself; I'm willing to slow down; I can start over.

4. Dietary Therapy Experience Record

  1. Record the time of consumption: whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a meal to settle down after emotional fluctuations.
  2. Observe changes in stomach comfort, body temperature, mental stability, and mood intensity within 30–60 minutes after consumption.
  3. If you consume it on days when you feel particularly anxious or down, you can keep track of whether it helps you slow down or gives your body a greater sense of security.

  • Those with sensitive stomachs, pregnant women, those with chronic diseases, or those currently taking medication should prioritize following the advice of medical professionals and nutritionists.

Mandala Viewing Healing

When guilt and shame arise, look at a mandala in soft hues. Place the most hurtful self-attacks on the outer circle and your wounded self in the center. Looking at the center, tell yourself: I can heal, but I don't need to humiliate myself. Let the pattern guide you back to gentleness.

○ Calligraphy and engraving therapy practice

This calligraphy and seal engraving exercise has no specific content and does not require perfect character formation. When faced with sluggishness due to combined fatigue, please focus your attention on holding the pen, placing the pen, pausing, and breathing, allowing the repetitive hand movements to gradually calm your nerves. Fatigue is not laziness or a lack of effort; please give your energy some room to recover in a slow pace. Please take it slow. The focus of the practice is not on how many characters you complete, but on maintaining a reliable sense of stability in each stroke, gently accompanying yourself through the day.

○ Art Therapy Guidance

Please draw two shapes: one of sharp self-blame, and one of soft self-understanding. The sharp shape can be represented by dark colors and angles, while the soft shape can be represented by circles and warm colors. Then draw a line between the two that gradually transitions, signifying your journey from shame to healing. Finally, leave some blank space on the canvas to remind yourself: I can take responsibility, and I can be treated kindly.
