Today, I want to gently approach you with the topic: Five Stages to Rebuild Self-Control. Many people, after repeatedly losing control, feel completely helpless, as if being pushed around by their emotions. In fact, control isn't something you suddenly gain; it's often built back little by little. We can divide it into five stages: Awareness, Pause, Choice, Repair, and Reflection. The first stage is Awareness. You begin to see physical signals, triggers, and escalating emotions—this is already a significant improvement. In the past, you might have exploded directly; now you can notice tightness in your chest, hot palms, and faster speech. The second stage is Pause. Pausing doesn't have to be elegant; it might just be keeping quiet for three seconds, walking away for two minutes, putting down your phone, or saying you need to calm down. The third stage is Choice. You begin to choose a safer action from several options, such as drinking water, writing it down, contacting support, or postponing the conversation. The fourth stage is Repair. Even if you didn't do it perfectly, you're still willing to come back to explain, take responsibility, apologize, or adjust. The fifth stage is Reflection. You no longer just blame yourself but see where you could intervene earlier next time. Please don't expect yourself to complete all five stages at once. Perhaps you can only do post-event reflection now, and that's fine too. More reflection will gradually bring awareness; more awareness will gradually create pauses; more pauses will lead to choices. You can draw a five-step staircase and mark where you are today. This isn't to humiliate yourself, but to know where the next step is. If you only achieved awareness today, the next step is to write down a bodily signal; if you can pause, the next step is to prepare a better pause sentence; if you can repair, the next step is to describe the repair more specifically. A sense of control isn't about never losing control, but about increasingly knowing what you can do before and after losing control. Please see change as a slow return. Every time you don't continue to upgrade, every time you respond a little later, every time you're willing to reflect, it's a return of control. After reading aloud, please write down which stage you are most often in now, and the next smallest practice action.

○ Music therapy guidance

Choose a piece of music with a clear structure, divide it into several sections, and let it accompany you through awareness, pause, choice, repair, and reflection. For each section, ask only one question: Where am I now, and what can I still do? A sense of control is not about gritting your teeth to avoid losing control, but about knowing that you can come back step by step.

○East-West Healing Tea Drinks

○ Citrus Blossom Tea: When rebuilding self-control, citrus blossom tea is a good choice. Its aroma is refreshing and slightly bright, suitable for regaining direction after emotional turmoil. While drinking, ask yourself: Where am I now? Awareness, pause, choice, repair, or reflection? Each step you take is a slow return to yourself.

○ Healing Recipes

○ Healing Recipe: Classic Cocoa Ritual

The classic cocoa ritual is best performed when you need quiet time to be with yourself. Dissolve cocoa in warm water, add a pinch of honey, smell the aroma first, then slowly sip. Don't rush to find answers; simply allow this time for your inner self, letting the warmth of the cocoa accompany you closer to your true feelings.

◉ Chinese Food Therapy: Black Rice and Red Bean Porridge

I. Recommended Dietary Therapy and Reasons

Recommended dishes:Black rice and red bean porridge

Recommended reasons:Black rice and red bean porridge is a gentle way to nourish the body after emotional ups and downs. It doesn't aim for strong stimulation, but rather uses warmth, the aroma of grains, and a soft texture to help the body regain a sense of security. Treat it as a comforting meal, not a task, and allow yourself to relax slowly with each bite.

2. Recipe and Method

Recipe (1–2 servings):

  • 45g of black rice, soaked in advance
  • Soak 30g of red beans in advance.
  • 20g glutinous rice
  • 1000 ml of clean water
  • A little rock sugar, optional

practice:

  1. Rinse rice thoroughly. Beans, lotus seeds, and white fungus, which are harder ingredients, can be soaked in advance.
  2. First, rinse the medicinal ingredients that need to be processed simply. Blanch meat or special ingredients as needed or cut them into small pieces.
  3. Add water and the main ingredients to a pot, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer.
  4. Stir gently during cooking to prevent burning and allow the aromas of the ingredients to blend slowly.
  5. Once the rice grains have opened up and the porridge has become soft and thick, add ingredients that are easy to cook or that need to retain their aroma.
  6. Season sparingly according to taste, keeping the flavor as light as possible, and avoid overpowering the ingredients with excessive sugar, salt, or strong flavors.
  7. Let it cool slightly after serving before eating, allowing your body to gradually settle down in the warmth and softness.

3. Small rituals for body and mind

When cooking black rice and red bean porridge, you can first arrange the ingredients neatly so you can see their color, shape, and texture. This small action can help you gradually bring your attention back to the present moment from a state of confusion.

While waiting for the porridge to soften, give yourself three slow breaths. You don't need to explain, apologize, or solve everything immediately; just let your body know that it's safe for now.

When you take your first bite, focus on the temperature, aroma, and soft texture. You can gently tell yourself: I'm taking care of myself; I'm willing to slow down; I can start over.

4. Dietary Therapy Experience Record

  1. Record the time of consumption: whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a meal to settle down after emotional fluctuations.
  2. Observe changes in stomach comfort, body temperature, mental stability, and mood intensity within 30–60 minutes after consumption.
  3. If you consume it on days when you are prone to emotional outbursts, you can record whether it helps you slow down or gives your body a greater sense of security.

  • Sugar intake can be reduced or eliminated depending on individual circumstances; those with abnormal blood sugar levels should prioritize following medical advice.
  • If you have a poor appetite, you can eat a small amount first and don't have to force yourself to finish the whole bowl.

Mandala Viewing Healing

When rebuilding your sense of control, view the mandala as five stages: awareness, pause, choice, repair, and reflection. As your gaze travels through each circle, ask yourself where you are on the journey. A sense of control isn't about never losing control, but about being able to gradually return to yourself after each fluctuation.

○ Calligraphy and engraving therapy practice

Rebuilding self-control requires a phased approach. The writing and engraving exercises don't specify content; they simply help you experience the first step in the process of awareness, pausing, cooling down, expressing, and repairing. Each time you pause a little longer, you regain a bit more control. You don't have to be perfect and stable; you're simply practicing making choices again. Even a little bit counts. If you feel uncomfortable, pause. Give yourself some space. Please take your time. Even a little bit counts. If you feel uncomfortable, pause. Give yourself some space. Please take your time. ○ Art Therapy Guidance

When rebuilding your sense of self-control, you can draw five stages: awareness, pause, cooling down, expression, and repair. See which stage you most often stop at. This will help you understand that it's not a black-and-white issue of "having control" or "not having control," but rather a gradual practice of different levels of control. It doesn't need to be perfect. If you feel uncomfortable, pause. Even a little bit counts. Take it slow. It doesn't need to be perfect. If you feel uncomfortable, pause. Even a little bit counts. ○ Diary Healing Suggestions

Please write down which stage of self-control you are currently in: Are you just beginning to become aware, able to pause, able to calm down, able to express yourself, or able to repair? Write down a small action, just one small step in the next stage. You don't need to be perfectly stable all at once; control grows back through small pauses. Take it slow; stability and security are more important than speed. After writing, give yourself a gentle affirmation: I am learning, and I don't need to be perfect all at once. If you can only do a little today, please acknowledge that little bit counts. Please schedule your small actions lightly, so that you truly have a chance to achieve them tomorrow.
